Google Meet device troubleshooting

Google Meet Camera Not Working

Use an independent webcam stream to distinguish a camera hardware/detection problem from Meet's camera permission or selection.

Evidence first

What the independent test changes

If DeviceOK passes

If the same browser can display DeviceOK video, the camera is producing a usable browser stream; Meet permission, selection or app contention is more likely.

If DeviceOK fails

If DeviceOK cannot display video, check detection, privacy shutter, OS/browser permission and connection before Meet.

Safe sequence

Check these in order

  1. 1

    Run DeviceOK Webcam Test.

  2. 2

Make sure the camera is connected, on and not blocked by a privacy shutter.

  3. 3

Choose the correct camera in Meet.

  4. 4

Allow camera access for Meet, the browser and the operating system; close other apps using the camera.

Verify

Retest instead of guessing

After changing one setting, run the independent DeviceOK test again before moving to a more invasive step. This preserves evidence and avoids changing multiple variables at once.
