OBS Studio device troubleshooting

OBS Microphone Has No Input

Prove the microphone signal before changing OBS sources, mixer routing or audio monitoring.

Evidence first

What the independent test changes

If DeviceOK passes

A DeviceOK input signal strongly suggests the microphone/browser path works; OBS source/mixer routing becomes the likely layer.

If DeviceOK fails

If DeviceOK sees no input, troubleshoot the microphone connection, mute and OS permissions first.

Safe sequence

Check these in order

  1. 1

Run DeviceOK Microphone Level Test and confirm live input.

  2. 2

In OBS, verify the correct audio input source/device is selected.

  3. 3

Check the OBS Audio Mixer for mute/level state.

  4. 4

If DeviceOK works but OBS does not, focus on OBS source selection/routing before drivers.

Verify

Retest instead of guessing

After changing one setting, run the independent DeviceOK test again before moving to a more invasive step. This preserves evidence and avoids changing multiple variables at once.
