OBS Display or Screen Capture Not Working

Verify that the browser/OS can present a screen-capture chooser, then focus on OBS display/window source and OS capture permissions.

Evidence first

What the independent test changes

If DeviceOK passes

DeviceOK screen capture working proves OS/browser capture is possible; OBS can still have source or permission issues of its own.

If DeviceOK fails

If DeviceOK capture is blocked too, resolve OS/browser capture permission first.

Safe sequence

Check these in order

  1. 1

Run DeviceOK Screen Share Test as a basic OS/browser capture-permission check.

  2. 2

Confirm the intended display/window source exists in OBS.

  3. 3

Verify operating-system screen-recording permission where required.

  4. 4

Restart OBS after permission changes when the OS requires a restart of the app.

Verify

Retest instead of guessing

After changing one setting, run the independent DeviceOK test again before moving to a more invasive step. This preserves evidence and avoids changing multiple variables at once.
