Zoom device troubleshooting

Zoom Microphone Not Working

Prove the microphone input outside Zoom, then check Zoom's selected input, app/OS permission and mute state in that order.

Evidence first

What the independent test changes

If DeviceOK passes

If DeviceOK receives normal microphone audio, a completely dead microphone is unlikely; focus on Zoom device selection, Zoom/OS permission and routing.

If DeviceOK fails

If DeviceOK cannot receive audio either, troubleshoot detection, mute, connection and OS microphone access before Zoom-specific settings.

Safe sequence

Check these in order

  1. 1

Run DeviceOK Microphone Test and confirm a live input signal.

  2. 2

In Zoom Audio settings, confirm the intended microphone is selected rather than a monitor, webcam mic or disconnected headset.

  3. 3

Use Zoom's built-in Test microphone flow and listen for the replay.

  4. 4

If DeviceOK works but Zoom does not, check Zoom's microphone permission at the operating-system level before changing drivers.

Verify

Retest instead of guessing

After changing one setting, run the independent DeviceOK test again before moving to a more invasive step. This preserves evidence and avoids changing multiple variables at once.
