Inspection principle

A display setup needs physical fit, signal bandwidth, connector mode, mount limits and host capability to agree. Matching connector shapes alone is insufficient.

These close the blind spots a website cannot inspect.

Host and display port capabilities

Record exact port versions/modes from official specs, especially USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode/Thunderbolt and HDMI/DP limits.

Why it matters: Identical connector shapes can expose different capabilities.

Cable rating/length

Use a cable rated for the intended video mode and avoid unnecessary adapters while diagnosing.

Why it matters: High-bandwidth modes are more sensitive to cable/link quality.

Mount capacity and VESA pattern

Verify VESA pattern, weight rating and mounting hardware against the display documentation.

Why it matters: Pattern match alone does not prove a mount is safe for the display weight.

  • Mount weight/fastener compatibility is uncertain.
  • Damaged video/power connectors or cable insulation are present.
