Why this answer matters
The RS300 mixes multi-gig and Gigabit LAN interfaces. Plugging into the wrong physical port can create a hard wired bottleneck that no Wi-Fi or DNS change will fix.
Requirements
What has to be true
- Use one of the two manufacturer-listed 2.5-Gb/s LAN ports for a 2.5GbE client.
- Use appropriate cabling and a client NIC that supports 2.5GbE.
Verify it yourself
Use this test sequence
Change one variable at a time so you know which requirement made the difference.
- 1
Check the physical port label and negotiated link speed in the client OS.
- 2
Move the same client/cable between a 1GbE and 2.5GbE LAN port to isolate the interface ceiling.
- 3
Use latency/jitter tests separately from throughput; low latency does not prove multi-gig link speed.
Limits
What this answer does not prove
- NETGEAR's up-to-9.3-Gb/s Wi-Fi figure is an aggregate product-class specification, not one device's guaranteed throughput.
- Internet speed also depends on the WAN service and upstream equipment.
