Code 47: Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for safe removal

The device was prepared/ejected for removal but remains connected.

First action

Unplug and reconnect the device; restart if needed.

Use the error code as a Windows device-state clue. It does not by itself identify the exact failed component inside the hardware.

Then verify

Do not stop at the code disappearing

    Wait for reconnection to complete before opening apps that use the device.

    Check cable/port if the device does not return.

After Windows reports the device normally, run the matching DeviceOK test when one exists—for example camera, microphone, keyboard, mouse, controller or audio—to confirm the user-facing function works.
