dark or neutral screens show uneven bright areas, tint or edge glow
This symptom concerns the display path. Start with a neutral DeviceOK test where available so the next step is based on evidence rather than a generic reset sequence.
Do not jump to the most invasive fix
Avoid destructive resets, unofficial driver packages, firmware flashing, or replacing hardware before the simpler detection, permission, connection and configuration checks are exhausted.
Retest the same condition
After every meaningful change, repeat the same test under the same conditions and compare the result.
Rule out the simple causes
- 1
Run DeviceOK black and gray uniformity patterns full screen.
- 2
Set a normal brightness level and inspect from a normal viewing position.
- 3
Compare the same panel using another input/source if possible.
Work through the problem in order
- 1
If the uneven area remains fixed in the same physical place across sources, it is more likely panel/backlight-related than app content.
- 2
If the issue changes with viewing angle, distinguish IPS-type glow/viewing behavior from fixed bleed.
- 3
DeviceOK cannot quantify panel uniformity professionally; use the manufacturer return/service policy for severe defects.
A uniform reference that looks normal suggests the original content/app may be contributing.
A fixed physical bright/tinted region across multiple sources is stronger evidence of a panel/backlight characteristic or fault.
