ChromeOS

Use the browser test to identify the right troubleshooting layer.

ChromeOS has operating-system privacy controls for camera and microphone in addition to Chrome site permissions. This makes permission troubleshooting especially important before treating Chromebook hardware as failed.

High-signal checks

What to establish first

  1. 1

Check ChromeOS Settings → Privacy and security → Privacy controls for Camera/Microphone access.

  2. 2

Then check the site's Chrome permission.

  3. 3

If one web app fails but DeviceOK works, investigate that site's selected device/permission before hardware replacement.

Browser boundary

What not to infer

  • Linux-container apps can have separate permissions from ChromeOS browser apps.
  • Browser tests cannot inspect internal storage/memory health or firmware directly.
  • Managed school/work Chromebooks can have administrator policies.
