Use the browser test to identify the right troubleshooting layer.

Windows device troubleshooting often has two permission layers: Windows Privacy & security controls and the browser/app's own selection or permission. Device Manager errors add a third source of evidence for detection/driver problems.

What to establish first

    Check Windows Camera or Microphone privacy access when media tests are blocked.

    Use Device Manager when Windows itself reports a hardware/driver status code.

  3. 3

    If DeviceOK works but one desktop app fails, focus on that app's selected input/output and permission before reinstalling drivers.

What not to infer

  • A web page cannot read SSD SMART health, RAM faults or internal temperatures generically.
  • Driver/firmware installation belongs to Windows Update or the official device maker.
  • Enterprise/group policy can override ordinary settings.
