What this message does — and does not — prove
Official meaningBrother says Drum ! can indicate that the drum unit's corona wire needs cleaning or that the toner/drum assembly is not installed correctly.
Do not assumeDrum ! does not automatically mean the drum unit has reached end of life or must immediately be replaced.

Work through the manufacturer-scoped path

Clean the drum unit corona wire as Brother instructs.

Remove and correctly reseat the toner cartridge in the drum unit.

Reinstall the assembly and verify the message clears.
